The Cole family has been identified with the history of Rhode Island since the early years of the struggling colony. The family which was founded in Rhode Island by James Cole is a branch of one of the most ancient and honorable English houses.
“Washington L. Cole did much to make “Cole’s Farm” well known. Possessing hundreds of acres, he produced big crops, had a large dairy and went extensively into the breeding of racehorses. One of his mares, Messenger Girl,” after defeating all competitors in New England, was sold at Narragansett Park after some races, to Kentucky breeders, who paid $1000 for her. Many noted horses of present times trace their ancestry back through this mare.” (Source: Cow Paths on City StreetsTHE PROVIDENCE SUNDAY JOURNAL MAGAZINE, NOVEMBER 24, 1929)
Hambletonian, was one of the best Thoroughbred racehorses of the late 18th century, having won all of his race starts, except one, and was later a good sire (source: Wikipedia)
Best wishes for a bright and prosperous new year and for many years to come! Cole Farmhouse #USA1731 is celebrating this year 292 years (1731 to 2023)!!
Our hens are working in the egg assembly line @ #ColeFarmhouse in #Providence. Beautiful variety of #rhodeislandred #barredrock #australorp #blackcoppermarans and #longhorn chickens. Our #airbnb guests are loving the eggs. And yes, our fearless hens are delivering fresh eggs also in #newengland winter 🥚🥚🥚🥚🐣
it is a house with a long history, the decoration and maintenance of the house are very good. The house is equipped with all modern high-quality household items, including three coffee machines that can make different kinds of coffee. There are so many lovely decorative paintings and objects inside the house, my kids and I had a lot of fun finding over twenty trinkets containing chickens and over thirty ducks. My kids visit Ronnie's chickens in the chicken coop behind the house every day. Ronni brought us fresh eggs every day and gave us a small gift when we left. He is the most friendly and welcoming host I have ever met and responded promptly to any messages we had. I hope to live in this comfortable and lovely house next time. Ronnie, thank you for your hospitality.
Thank you so much for hosting us. We had a really nice time. The house is beautiful! We got to know the chickens very well and they recieved lots of love this weekend. We hope to be back in the future.
Our family had such a wonderful time in your home. We loved getting print NYT is and did some crosswords together. We had so many the lovely breakfasts from the chickens and even hand fed them some veggie scraps. The coffee set up was perfect for our family. We had so many little espressos. PVD donuts was life changing — the cannoli donut was the best. We loved the mix of old and new in the house – from the updated kitchen to the fun slanty floors. 7 Stars! Just like the bakery! Thank you for sharing your home ♥️
At early 1900’s , the Cole Farm section was a little village with about 100 inhabitants and its own general store (see map). The farm was famous for its herd of one hundred high grade cows. During its later years the farm was used for horse breeding. It remained a farm until 1947 when the last 3 acres of land were sold off for house lots.
